Rokewood Stud was established in 1989, at Upper Maffra in Central Gippsland, Victoria Australia.
In 2007 we relocated to the lush and fertile pastures of Darnum, just over an hour east of Melbourne.
Nestled in the valley between the popular ski resort of Mount Baw Baw to the north and the Strzlecki Range and it's Grand Ridge Road to the south, this area is renowned as some of the most picturesque farmland in Victoria. The district is a popular tourist destination, for those who enjoy the finer things in life, due to the close proximity to Boutique B & B's, fine wineries, restaurants, gourmet delis & cafes, antique shops and galleries.
The stud's initial focus was on the breeding of purebred Arabians of predominantly Egyptian and
El Shaklan lines, with an emphasis on producing individuals displaying an abundance of Type,
kind temperament, sound conformation and strong movement - capable of excelling in any given discipline from halter to performance, from pony club to endurance.
Arabians carrying the Rokewood prefix have found homes in every state in Australia,
with two having been exported to the UAE by The Royal Stables of Dubai as endurance mounts.
The "downsizing" Pony Programme has been a recent additional development, with the introduction of
our Welsh B and Riding Ponies - all of which are eligible for multiple registrations,
including Arabian derivatives as Arabian ponies or Arabian Riding ponies.
We enjoy competing with our Arabians and Ponies on a regular basis at Breed and Foal Shows,
through to State and Australian Championship and Royals, usually with pleasing results -
however the show ring is not the driving force behind our breeding philosophy.
Nothing can beat the quiet pleasure and satisfaction of sitting out in the broodmare pasture at dusk,
watching the latest crop of foals at play as the sun sets.
To us, that is the greatest achievement of all... and that is what it's all about.
