The beginning of 2010 has seen two considerable setbacks to our Arabian breeding programme...
The first was the devastating loss of our Asfour daughter Simeon Seudah [due to Colitis],
along with the unborn Shatoor foal she was carrying,
followed soon after by the premature loss of Malana's foal by Riyadh.
Diva De-Rothbury has been bred to Shatoor, in an endeavour to fill the place left by the loss of Seudah and her baby,
but as it is now late in the season, it has been decided to leave Malana empty until the coming 2010 breeding season.
Our heartfelt thanks to all who phoned, emailed, sent cards and messages of sympathy and support... it was appreciated.
It's an uphill battle.... but onwards and upwards nonetheless.
Go "the Lemon Pony"!
News from Jodie and "Team Lemon" is all positive...
Lemon is now working consistently well at official Novice level and regularly placing at Pony Dressage.
This is purely due to the dedication of Jodie to our bold as brass little pony... she's does him [and us] proud!
We were excited to take our place in the ever expanding "Team Lemon Cheer Squad"
at Dressage with the Stars in March, where he came 4th in the hotly contested 5yo dressage pony competition
amongst some incredibly strong competition... Top Effort Jodie!
Congratulations!
To Lisa Oneill [breeder] and the Halloran family, who own and show the lovely Welsh B mare Marconi Chanel, on her recent success at both Melbourne Royal Horse Show and Barastoc.
Chanel is a daughter of Marconi Stud's Weston Park Mercury and our very own Weston Park Music.
Foal Shows...
Over the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd of May, Charles attended the PetStock and Magic Breed Foal Shows
at Werribee Park, where he was awarded Champion Riding Pony at PetStock Show,
and Reserve Champion Dual registered Riding Pony at the Magic breed show.
Many thanks to Jayne Bellchambers of Westacres for doing such a great job with him
Congratulations and good luck...
To these new owners of Rokewood bred horses, who are all now settling in to their new homes...
Gary Roberts of NSW is the new owner of Rokewood Samirashan and eagerly awaiting her Riyadh foal, due November...
this resulting foal could be something very special and we're all very much looking forward to its safe arrival.
Rokewood Charleston is now residing in Queensland, with Mike & Greg Smith of Smithfields Stud.
Wishing you both all the best with little Charles... we miss him!
Rokewood Poetry has now arrived safe and sound with her excited new owners Amy & Janice Curran...
we know how special this mare is to you Amy - it's an absolute pleasure to see her become a permanent part of your life.
Another of our mares to relocate to a long time admirer, is Rokewood Ibiza,
now proudly owned by Julie Curry of Macquarie Park Arabians in NSW -
according to Julie, "the arrival of Ibiza marks the end of a year long search for a young, tall, bay mare."
We're looking forward to seeing the beautiful foals she'll produce when crossed with Saareef.
To all of you... congratulations, good luck with them, and welcome to the family!

Welcome to Rokewood... Sarahn Pretty n Pink.
We're delighted to announce the recent arrival of our latest addition to the Rokewood pony collection...
the cremello Welsh Mountain/Arabian pony, Sarahn Pretty n Pink [Woranora Tempest X Snowdonvale Fantasia].
We have long been admirers of Sara's sire Woranora Tempest and his progeny, and of the influential Welsh A stallion Menai Silver Sand, who we have fond memories of meeting at Woranora Stud many years ago...
so when the opportunity to obtain a double dilute Tempest daughter, with a triple cross to Menai Silver Sand presented itself, resistance was futile and she was purchased without hesitation. Many thanks to Sherrie Hilliard and Wade Edwards from Sarahn Pony Stud, for considering us a suitable home and agreeing to part with her.
We hope to get Sara out & about a little this season, before she joins the broodmare band... we have so many different breedings planned for her, and so many potential husbands to choose from... the decision is where to start!
Wonderful to hear from you!
We love to hear family updates... so were delighted to recieve recent photos and news of these two
very beautiful [and much loved] Riyadh Sons.
"Reflecting the beauty and power of his pedigree, Muta'Salim has matured into a breathtaking stallion with perfect temperament, a gentleman and yet a fantastic show-off as the circumstance suits.
2010 will be a very exciting year as Salim's first foals are highly anticipated - First is Sar Annisa,
our Sar Monisa daughter by Maa'zooz and next is Mark Lilley and Tanya Hawley's Nahlanah."
Exciting news indeed Kelli! We look forward to hearing your birth announcements...
hard to believe our boy is soon to be a grandfather!
Salim has matured into a magnifcent stallion - we are so proud of you and him...
thank you for flying Riyadh's flag so high and so well with your amazing lookalike son.

Razara Momentum [aka "Teddy"]
(Rokewood Riyadh x Razara Elleganza)
With proud owner Monica DeGraaf
Thanks also to Monica DeGraaf for this gorgeous photo of Elleganza's Riyadh baby , Razara Momentum [aka "Teddy"].
Monica reports that Teddy is now weaned and gelded, in preparation for his new career as her future show and saddle gelding... with his impressive size, gorgeous face, his glorious Mum's lovely blonde locks and that fabulous "Teddy Bear" temperament, we have absolutely no doubt he'll be perfect for the job... and look forward to his showring debut.
for this wonderful tribute to our beautiful birthday boy.
21/09/10 ~ Happy 21st Birthday Shatoor!
Spring is a glorious time of year in Gippsland...
with the warmer temperatures and mild sunny days becoming more regular, the mud is beginning to dry up
and lush green pasture taking its place - just in time for this season's foals to arrive.
Our 2010 Foal crop is a special one indeed, with four very exciting babies now safely on the ground...
despite some initial nervous moments.
Our next foaling began at a very respectable hour, around midday in glorious sunshine, so as luck would have it I was in attendance with camera in hand to record the event... incredibly lucky indeed as it turned out, as I was there to witness the mare commence a "Red Bag" delivery - [a very serious emergency situation whereby the foal is delivered fully enclosed in the prematurely detached placenta, usually resulting in a still born foal due to oxygen starvation during delivery] -
It was only through immediate intervention by manually cutting an opening in the placenta and helping to pull the foal, which enabled our new baby to survive being born... she's a precious little filly, by Ascot in Concert from Bimbadeen Natasha, to have her born alive, despite the odds being against her, is a true gift.
Our third foal to arrive has been eagerly awaited since conception - he is the result of a mating between our much loved Magenta and the
impressive and unique Palomino Arabian Pony
A maiden first time mother, Magenta waited until daylight to ensure we'd be up and ready to assist her in foaling - he's large for a first foal and despite some initial trepidation from Magenta in her new role, she's taken well to motherhood and is very proud of her new colt... indeed, as are we... he has easily surpassed all the hopes and expectations we held, when this breeding was originally planned.
Even at just a few days old, he is generating a great deal of interest and excitement - we look forward to seeing what his future holds.
Our first foal, a Palomino colt by Keira Park Cascade from Brampton Xquisite, arrived on a freezing, wet and windy evening and for some unknown reason, the mare's
foaling alarm wasn't triggered...
Thankfully regular checks were being made and this little fellow was discovered just minutes after his arrival, as
his mother had chosen the muddiest and the deepest puddle in the foaling yard to deliver her baby, so it was an icy cold, wet and very bedraggled little newborn who was bundled into a stable in the barn, to dry out and warm up.
His unceremonious arrival has done nothing to dampen his spirits, in fact he's cheerfully never looked back.
We're delighted have such a beautiful dilute "Snow baby" to add our ever brightening Riding Pony collection.
Also to Leo McDougall of Murraydale Park, on the safe arrival of his two In Concert foals,
the first, a very cute chestnut colt out of Calwalla Carousel
and the second a bay colt in the image of of his sire from Warriewood Sierra.
Congratulations Leo, we wish you all the best with these two gorgeous boys.
Congratulations...
To Gary Roberts of NSW on his brand new Riyadh colt from Rokewood Samirashan - Gary Reports...
"He has the most beautiful disposition for a foal I have ever had anything to do with... I am so attached to him.
Samira is the best Mum, always looking after him but willing to share him as well - She is looking beautiful.
I would not exchange Farzaan for anything but I would love a matching filly from Samirashan and Riyadh.
I wish you could see Farzaan in the flesh, I'm sure you and Rod would be very proud of your breeding."
We are indeed Gary, and we're delighted for you...
I'm so pleased your new baby has turned out to be every bit as special as we all hoped he would be.
Keeping everything crossed for a full sister for you in 2011.
Foal number four, and our last for the season,
arrived safe and sound in early November...
a leggy and elegant bay riding pony colt by In Concert and from the grand old riding pony mare, Burrendong The Rose.
This little fellow just oozes quality, with the amazing front that is rapidly becoming a distinct family signature
for all the In Concert progeny.
We expect him to mature galloway... he has saddle horse written all over him, but with his valuable bloodlines, he could prove useful as a breeding horse as well.
He will be for sale to a discerning show/stud home,
and available on weaning.
Rod and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful Christmas
and a safe, happy and prosperous 2011 to come.
Cheers one and all!
Jodie Young and Lemongrove put in a creditable performance at this years Saddleworld Dressage Festival,
placing well in one test, and finishing just out of the top 5 in the other, amongst a strong field of tough competitors.
It's wonderful to see Lemon maturing and settling into the job of Dressage Pony in earnest,
as a result of all the hard work and training put in by his very dedicated rider and "other Mother"...
Well done Jodie... top effort - we couldn't be more proud of both you and The Lemon Pony.
Well done yet again Team Lemon...
